London Electronics offers panel meters for 4-20mA, 0-10V, load cell, strain gauge, thermocouple, PT100, PT1000, resistance, potentiometer and pulse inputs, allowing many different sensors and transmitters to be connected.

Can a digital panel meter accept a 4-20mA input?

Yes. 4-20mA is one of the most common industrial signals used with digital panel meters.

Our 4-20mA panel meters can scale the input to display the required engineering value, including pressure, temperature, level, flow, weight or percentage.

How do I scale a 4-20mA digital panel meter?

A programmable panel meter allows the 4mA and 20mA input values to be assigned to the required display range.

For example, a pressure transmitter producing 4-20mA could be configured so that 4mA displays 0.0 bar and 20mA displays 10.0 bar.

Can a digital panel meter accept a 0-10V input?

Yes. London Electronics process panel meters can accept common industrial voltage signals including 0-10V.

The incoming voltage can be scaled so the panel meter displays the actual engineering measurement rather than simply displaying the voltage.

Can a digital panel meter connect directly to a load cell?

Yes. A suitable load cell panel meter can connect directly to strain gauge load cells.

London Electronics load cell indicators can display weight, force, tension or other measurements and can be used for weighing, batching, tank weighing, crane and industrial force measurement applications.

Can a digital panel meter display temperature?

London Electronics temperature indicators support options including thermocouple, PT100 and PT1000 RTD sensors, allowing temperature to be displayed directly in the required units.

Can a panel meter accept a PT100 temperature sensor?

Yes. PT100 RTD sensors can be connected to a compatible digital temperature indicator.

Our programmable temperature panel meters can display the measured temperature and can also provide alarm or control outputs where required.

Can a digital panel meter accept a thermocouple?

Yes. London Electronics digital temperature indicators can accept common industrial thermocouple types.

This allows a single panel-mounted display to provide a clear local temperature indication directly from the sensor.

Can a digital panel meter display pressure?

Yes. A pressure transmitter can be connected to a digital process indicator using a compatible signal such as 4-20mA or 0-10V.

The display can then be scaled to show pressure directly in bar, PSI, kPa or another required engineering unit.

Can a digital panel meter display tank level?

Yes. A level transmitter can be connected to a digital panel meter and scaled to show the required tank level.

The display could show litres, percentage full, metres, millimetres or another engineering value, depending on the application.

Can a digital panel meter display flow rate?

Yes. A suitable process or pulse input can be used to display flow rate.

Depending on the sensor, London Electronics panel meters can display measurements such as litres per minute, litres per hour or other required flow engineering units.

Can a digital panel meter count pulses?

Yes. A pulse input panel meter can count signals from proximity sensors, switches, encoders and other pulse-generating devices.

Typical applications include production counting, batch counting, event counting and totalisation.

Can a digital panel meter display RPM or speed?

Yes. Pulse or frequency signals can be converted into speed or rate.

A London Electronics digital rate meter can display values such as RPM, metres per minute, units per hour or cycles per minute, depending on the application.

Can a digital panel meter be used as a totaliser?

Yes. A digital totaliser can accumulate incoming pulses or process information to provide a running total.

Typical applications include flow totalisation, production counting, batch measurement and machine cycle counting.

Can a digital panel meter have relay outputs?

Yes. Digital panel meters can be supplied with programmable relay outputs.

Relay outputs can operate at selected measurement levels and can be used for alarms, warning lights, sounders, PLC inputs or basic process control.

Can I set high and low alarms on a digital panel meter?

Yes. Programmable high and low alarm setpoints can be configured on suitable panel meters.

For example, a temperature display could activate a relay when the temperature becomes too high, while another relay could operate if the temperature falls below a minimum value.

Can the LED colour change when an alarm occurs?

Yes. Multi-colour digital panel meters can change display colour according to the measured value or alarm condition.

For example, the display could normally show green, change to amber as a limit is approached and then change to red when an alarm level is reached.

Can a digital panel meter provide a 4-20mA output?

Yes. Analogue retransmission can be used to convert the measured value into a 4-20mA output.

This allows the panel meter to provide a local digital display while simultaneously sending the measurement to another PLC, recorder, controller or monitoring system.

Can a digital panel meter communicate using RS485?

Yes. RS485 communication can be used to connect suitable digital panel meters to PLCs, computers, data logging systems and remote displays.

This provides a digital communication method for transferring measurement data over longer distances.

Can a digital panel meter communicate using Modbus?

Yes. Modbus communication is available on suitable digital panel meter configurations.

Modbus can allow measured values and other information to be exchanged with PLCs, industrial computers and automation systems using an established industrial communication protocol.

Can a digital panel meter connect to a PLC?

Yes. A digital panel meter can interface with a PLC using analogue signals, relay outputs or digital communications such as RS485/Modbus, depending on the application.

This allows the panel meter to provide a clear local display while the PLC manages the wider machine or process.

Can a panel meter drive a larger remote LED display?

Yes. A panel meter can be used as part of a system where the same measurement is repeated on a much larger remote display.

London Electronics manufactures both digital panel meters and large-format industrial LED displays, allowing the same process value to be visible locally and from much greater viewing distances.

Can one sensor feed both a panel meter and a PLC?

Yes, although the correct connection method depends on the sensor signal and equipment being used.

Options can include analogue retransmission from the panel meter, serial communications or suitable signal distribution. London Electronics can advise on the correct configuration for the application.

What power supply does a digital panel meter need?
