Arsenal Women Improve Training Visibility with Bespoke FUSION LED Timer
London Electronics has supplied Arsenal Women with a bespoke 12-inch FUSION LED timer, providing the club’s coaching team with a highly visible and flexible timing solution for use across the training ground.
Working closely with Gary Lewin and the Arsenal Women coaching team, London Electronics developed a solution specifically around the requirements of elite football training. Rather than relying on a standard off-the-shelf timer, the system combines a high-brightness LED display with bespoke firmware and long-range wireless control.
A timing display designed around the training environment
Clear visibility is essential during football training, particularly when coaches and players need to monitor timings from different positions across a large training area.
The Arsenal Women application called for a display that could be easily seen outdoors, while also giving coaches the flexibility to change between different timing modes without having to operate the display manually.
London Electronics supplied a 12-inch FUSION LED display, offering a significantly larger viewing area than the club’s previous 8-inch display.
The increased display size, combined with high-brightness LEDs, provides excellent visibility across the training ground and in changing outdoor lighting conditions.
Bespoke firmware for greater flexibility
One of the key aspects of the project was developing the FUSION timer around Arsenal Women’s specific requirements.
The display’s firmware was customised to allow coaches to instantly switch between:
- Count-up timer
- Countdown timer
- Normal time display
These functions can be selected using a long-range wireless controller, allowing the display to be operated from around the training facility without requiring a direct line of sight.
With a wireless range of up to 600 metres in non-line-of-sight conditions, the system gives coaches considerable flexibility when setting up and running training sessions.
More than just a display
For London Electronics, the project was about more than supplying a large LED timer.
The team provided an on-site demonstration, assisted with installation and configuration, and ensured the system was operating as required before completing the installation.
The customer also had direct access to London Electronics’ engineering team throughout the process, providing technical support before, during and after installation.
This approach allowed the system to be configured around the way the coaching team actually works, rather than expecting the customer to adapt their training environment to a standard product.
A complete timing solution for professional sport
The completed system combines a large, highly visible display with simple wireless control and application-specific firmware.
For Arsenal Women, this means coaches can quickly select the timing mode they need and clearly see the information from around the training ground.
