Improving Visibility in Extreme Conditions: A Project with ArcelorMittal Infrastructure

When you’re working in heavy industry, reliability isn’t optional. Equipment has to perform in some of the harshest environments imaginable, where temperatures drop well below freezing and downtime can quickly become expensive.
That was the challenge facing ArcelorMittal Infrastructure, part of the global steel group ArcelorMittal. Their teams operate across large infrastructure and construction projects, often in locations where winter conditions can push temperatures down to –30°C.
In environments like that, even something as simple as lighting becomes critical. ArcelorMittal Infrastructure needed a lighting solution that could cope with extreme cold while still delivering the brightness needed for safe working conditions.
Their existing setup simply wasn’t performing well enough. Visibility was limited, and reliability in freezing temperatures was a concern. For teams operating heavy machinery and working long hours outdoors, that’s not just inconvenient, it’s a safety issue. They needed something tougher.
Working alongside distributor CTH Controls, London Electronics supplied its Super Stainless Steel Fusion SSP display solution. These units are designed specifically for demanding industrial environments and include features that help them keep performing when temperatures drop well below zero.
One key element is the integrated heating system, which allows the displays to operate reliably in extremely cold conditions. Combined with improved brightness and programmable functionality, the units offered a practical upgrade over the previous system.
Installation was also straightforward, allowing the equipment to be deployed quickly without disrupting ongoing operations. The difference was immediately noticeable once the new units were installed.
The displays delivered significantly improved brightness and continued to operate reliably even during testing in temperatures between –20°C and –30°C. According to CTH Controls, the improvement over the previous system was dramatic:

“The difference between the new unit and the previous system is phenomenal. We’ve already tested them in temperatures between –20°C and –30°C and everything was running great.”
Following the successful initial installation, the solution is now being rolled out more widely across equipment.
Projects like this highlight a simple reality in industrial environments. Technology doesn’t just need to work. It needs to work every single day, regardless of weather, temperature or location.
By designing equipment specifically for these conditions, London Electronics helps organisations like ArcelorMittal Infrastructure keep operations safe, visible and reliable, even in the most challenging environments.
